Hypokalemia
Hypopotassemia
Hypokalemia (potassium deficiency)
is a lower-than-normal quantity of
potassium in the blood stream. There are several reasons for
this condition including excessive potassium loss by
the renal or gastrointestinal path, from a decrease in
intake, or from transcellular shifts; manifested clinically
by neuromuscular disorders ranging from weakness to
paralysis, by several electrocardiographic abnormalities, and
by various gastrointestinal and renal
disorders.
Hypokalemia is a metabolic disorder that
occurs when the level of potassium in the blood stream drops
too low.
